EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - WSU senior Erin McCleave completed her first event of the 2007 U.S. Spring National Championships held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y. The Rutherglen, Australia native swam the 800m freestyle, the first of six events she will compete in over the course of the competition.

McCleave finished in third place in the preliminaries of the 800m freestyle with a time of 8:46.95 and will advance to the event finals Wednesday, March 28.

"It was a really great swim," said WSU head coach Erica Quam. "She had never swam that event before so she did a great job considering."

Competition continues Wednesday beginning with the finals of the 800m freestyle. Other Cougars competing Wednesday include Kayli Changstrom and Michaela Ahlin in the 200m butterfly, Elyse Peterson and Shawna Keller in the 200m breaststroke and Afton Pickett in the 200m backstroke. McCleave will also swim the 100m freestyle Wednesday.

Preliminary heats begin at 9:00 a.m. EST while finals are slated for 5:30 p.m. EST on each day of competition. For event schedules and live results, visit www.usaswimming.org.
