MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior Erin McCleave set a WSU record in the 200 freestyle preliminaries to advance to the event finals at the 2007 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships Friday. McCleave placed 13th in the event with a career best time of 1:46.70.

"After getting off to such a rough start yesterday, Erin came back with a vengeance this morning," said WSU head coach Erica Quam. "I am so proud of her. It takes both the physical preparation and the mental edge to race well at this meet. She rebounded from yesterdays' swim and showed such character and the mental toughness that great competitors have. She has earned her spot amongst a very fast field of 200 freestylers tonight."

In Thursday's 500 freestyle preliminaries, McCleave finished 58th after being seeded eighth overall.

The Rutherglen, Australia native owned the previous school record of 1:47.41 set Feb. 16 at the Pacific-10 Championships. It is the second WSU record time McCleave has earned this year.

Event finals will begin at 7:00 p.m. Fans can view live meet results through the NCAA website by visiting http://www.ncaasports.com/swimming/womens and clicking on the "Swimming" link under "Championship Live Stats".  Fans can also watch the competition live on ESPN360.com Friday and Saturday from 7:00-10:00 p.m. EST.
