Cougars Finish Third at CWU Wildcat Invitational

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Washington State University women's swim team finished third in the Central Washington University Wildcat Invitational Sunday. In the third and final day of competition, WSU added 142 points to its 378 points from the first two days of competition giving them a total of 520.

Pacific-10 rival, Washington finished first with 883 points, while Spokane Area Swimming came in second with 624.5points. Behind WSU was, Seattle University (384.5), Tri-City Channel Cats (363), University of Puget Sound (359), Whitworth (255), CWU (59), Palouse Area Swim Club (53), and Ellensburg Area Swim Team (7).

Freshman Katie Van Horne had the highest finish of the day for the Cougars, coming in third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.04. Sophomore Lesley Ouellette finished fifth in the event (53.59).

In the 200 backstroke, junior Brianne Kelson finished fifth in a time of 2:09.62. For complete results from all three days of the CWU Wildcat Invitational, please go to: www.wildcatsports.com.

Other WSU swimmers competed in the U.S. Open Thursday, Dec. 4 through Saturday, Dec. 6. The meet consisted of over 800 swimmers from various universities and club teams, including 15 athletes from the 2000 Olympics. For results from the U.S. Open, please go to www.usaswimming.org.

The Cougars are off for the rest of December. They return to action Wednesday, January 7 in Los Angeles, Calif., where they will take on the Bruins of UCLA in a Pac-10 dual meet.
