Cougars Remain Second With One Day Left of Speedo Cup Invitational

Long Beach, Calif. - The Washington State University women's swim team continues to hold second place, Friday, after day two of the three-day Speedo Cup Invitational. In the second day of competition, WSU added 240 points to their 233 points from the first day of competition giving them a total of 473. The Cougars trail Pacific with 934 points, and hold a slim lead over San Diego (398). The Cougars mirrored their relay finishes from Thursday with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:46.32) and third place the 800 free relay (7:40.89). In individual competition, WSU had 11 swimmers make the finals in their respective events. Lindsay Henahan, who had a second place finish in the 50 free Thursday, grabbed another second place finish on Friday, this time in the 100 butterfly (54.37). Lisa Irwin (21), Sheena Mills (26) and Natascha Renfro (31) placed in the finals in that event. Becca Cohen add to her fourth place finish in the 500 free from Thursday, with another fourth place finish Friday. Cohen finished fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.55. Sasha Taylor (23) also landed in the finals in that event. Jane Copland (7) and Lesley Ouellette (8) finished back-to-back in the 100 breaststroke for the Cougs with times of 1:05.20 and 1:06.96. Rounding out the top finishers for WSU were Nicole Chinn (13) and Theresa Dunn (16) in the 100 backstroke.

The Speedo Cup Invitational wraps up Saturday Dec. 7. Events begin at 8:30 a.m., with finals starting at 6 p.m.
