Princeton, N.J. - The Washington State University women's swimming team ended the Princeton Invitational Sunday by capturing third place.

Junior Jane Copland (Wellington, New Zealand) won the 200 breaststroke title with a time of 2:16.68. Her time qualified her for the B cut and was the fastest time in the 200 breaststroke this year for WSU swimmers.

Sophomore Monika Povilonyte (Klaipeda, Lithuania) finished second in the 200 breaststroke to give WSU the one-two finish. Freshman McKenzie Reiter (Billings, Mont.) captured sixth in the 200 breaststroke to give WSU three of the top six finishers.

In the 200 butterfly, freshman Bryn Mooney (Pullman, Wash.) recorded a second place finish with a time of 2:03.88. Her time placed her second on the Cougars' All-Time Top 10 list in the event.

Sophomore Kayli Changstrom (Loveland, Colo.) finished eighth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.27.

Sophomore Erin McCleave (Rutherglen, Australia) finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51:30.

The 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Katie Van Horne (Healdsburg, Calif.), sophomore Lindsay Backhouse (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa), freshman Danielle Berish (Atlanta, Ga.) and McCleave swam a 3:29.08, which captured a second place finish at the Invite and was a faster time than the time WSU had at Pacific-10 Championships a year ago.

In late action Saturday, sophomore Emily Chandler (Anchorage, Alaska), Maegan Wood (Bend, Ore.), and Laurie Gregg (Los Altos, Calif.) each establish lifetime best time in the 400 individual medley.

Mooney capture a third place finish in the 100 butterfly by swimming a time of 56.37. In the same event Backhouse finished sixth with a time of 57.79.

In the 100 breaststroke, WSU swimmers excelled. Copland finished second with a time of 1:04.86, for a season best, Povilonyte finished fifth with a time of 1:06.04, Reiter posted a time of 1:06.32 for sixth place finish and Changstrom finished ninth with a time of 1:07.57.

The Cougar relay team also performed well Saturday. The 200 medley relay team consisting of McCleave, Povilonyte, Mooney and Van Horn finished in third place with a time of 1:46.35 and the other relay team in the relay consisting of Backhouse, Copland, Mills, and Newhouse finished in eighth in the 200 medley relay with a 1:51.06.

In the 800 freestyle relay WSU had a time of 7:36.93 to finish in fourth place.

The WSU swimming team next will travel to Irvine, Calif., Jan.8, to compete in the Irvine Invitational.
