Cougars in Second at CWU Wildcat Invitational In Ellensburg

The Washington State University women's swim team holds second place at the Central Washington University Wildcat Invitational in Ellensburg with 181 points after day one of competition Friday. Ahead of the WSU is the University of Washington with 290 points. Spokane Area Swimming is in third with 156 points, followed by Tri-City Channel Cats (119), Seattle University (100.50). Whitworth College (90), University of Puget Sound (87.50), Central Washington(20), and Palouse Area Swimming (12).

Other members of the WSU women's swim team competed in day two of the U.S. Open, Friday, in Federal Way, Wash.

At the Wildcat Invite, Nicole Chinn and Katie Van Horne had the highest finishes for the Cougs. Freshman Van Horne placed fifth in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.68. Senior Chinn finished fifth in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:11.52.

The WSU 200 'A' freestyle relay placed in a time of 1:38.85. The relay team consisted of Van Horne, Chinn, Lesley Ouellette, and Sheena Mills. For complete results please go to www.wildcatsports.com.

At the U.S. Open in Federal Way, the Cougar 400 meter medley relay team finished 34th in day two of the meet. The relay team consisted of freshmen Laurie Gregg, Monika Povilonyte, and Andria Giovanni, and senior Sasha Taylor.

The meet consists of over 800 entries ranging from club teams, university teams, and future/former Olympians. The U.S. Open events are all in long course meters to prepare for the upcoming Olympic year.

At the end of day two (21 events), Canada holds first place with 435 points. The Irvine Novaquatics follow in second place with 313 points, while the University of Florida swim team is third with 275 points. For complete results, please go to www.usaswimming.org.

 

 

The U.S. Open concludes Saturday, Dec. 6. Preliminaries begin at 9 a.m., with finals at 6 p.m. The Central Washington University Wildcat Invitational in Ellensburg continues through Sunday, Dec. 7. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. each day, with finals at 5 p.m.
