Povilonyte, Changstrom Lead WSU In Final Day Of U.S. Open

AUBURN, Ala. - Washington State juniors Monika Povilonyte and Kayli Changstrom swam lifetime best times in their respective event finals to lead the Cougars in the final day of competition at the 2005 U.S. Open.

Povilonyte turned in a time of 2:35.84 in the 200 breaststroke "B" final, finishing 11th overall and earning a NCAA "B" cut. Povilonyte also earned a "B" cut in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.21) in the opening day of the meet.

Changstrom swam to a 15th place overall finish in the 200 butterfly posting a time of 2:19.80 in the "B" final of the event.

Other Cougars making appearances in individual events included both Erin McCleave (59.44) and Jamie MacLeod (59.65) in 100 freestyle, Jane Copland in the 200 breaststroke (2:40.84) and Bryn Mooney in the 200 butterfly (2:29.94).

Washington State wrapped up the meet with a fourth place finish in the 400 freestyle relay as MacLeod, McCleave, Danielle Berish and Changstrom combined for a time of 3:56.77 in the event.

The Cougars earned 94 points finishing fourth overall in the university team standings behind Auburn, Florida and Alabama.
