Washington State in Second Place After First Day of Pacific Inivitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Washington State women's swimming team is in second place with a score of 289 after the first day of competition at the Pacific Invitational. WSU is currently trailing the 337 points of University of the Pacific. The 200 freestyle relay team of Bryn Mooney, Monika Povilonyte, Larissa Barth and Katie Van Horne captured a second place finish with a time of 1:40.69 in the meet's opening event. The 400 medley relay team of Mooney, Povilonyte, Changstrom and Erin McCleave finished second with a time of 3:55.62. Individually WSU was led by McCleave in the 500 yard freestyle. Her time of 5:01.22 placed her second in the event. Her time was a career best and ranks her eighth on the Cougars' all-time top ten list. Changstrom (2:07.66) and Jane Copland (2:08.67) finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 yard individual medley and secured their top times for the year. Mooney, a freshman from Pullman, set a season best in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25:00 which was good enough to capture a third place finish. Van Horne finished fifth with a time of 25:08. Freshman Sarah Reichwald, from Atlanta, Ga., is currently fourth place in points among individuals at the meet. "Sarah did an amazing job for us, especially after swimming the mile," said WSU Head Coach Erica Quam. "She was the only one of our swimmers to swim two individual events." WSU continues competition in the Pacific Invitational, Saturday, at 9 a.m. The Cougars will host Arkansas at 3 p.m., Nov. 6. The Pac-10 Conference season will begin Nov. 19 when WSU hosts Washington at 6 p.m.
