Copland Records 21st Place Finish During Day 2 of U.S. Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS - Washington State University's Jane Copland finished 21st in the finals of the 200 meter (LC) breaststroke at the 2003 U.S. National Championships Wednesday.

Copland, a freshman from Wellington, New Zealand, posted a time of 2:36.95 in the 200 breaststroke. Copland earned an automatic qualification for the event with a seventh place finish of 2:15.71 (SC) at the Pacific-10 Championships (March 1). The qualifying standard for the U.S. Nationals is 2:18.29 (SC).

Arizona State's Agnes Kovacs won the 200m breast Wednesday, with a first place finish of 2:29.48. NCAA Champion, Stanford's Tara Kirk placed third with a time of 2:30.62.

The U.S. Nationals will continue through Friday, with Copland participating in two more events. Copland will time trial in the 200 IM Thursday and compete in the 100 breaststroke Friday. Copland is the lone Cougar competing at the event.
