MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Washington State senior Erin McCleave turned in a time of 1:47.01 in the 200 freestyle event finals Friday to place 14th overall in the event and earn All-American honors at the 2007 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Rutherglen, Australia native advanced to the finals with a school record, and career best, time of 1:46.70 in the preliminaries of the 200 freestyle after finishing 58th in the 500 freestyle Thursday.

"I am so proud of her," said WSU head coach Erica Quam of McCleave's earlier performance. "She rebounded from yesterday's swim and showed such character and the mental toughness that great competitors have."

McCleave is just the third swimmer in WSU history to earn All-American honors and has received the award for the second straight year after finishing 11th in the 1650 freestyle at the 2006 NCAA Championships. She is also only the second swimmer to be honored multiple times. In 1999, Erin Eldridge was a two-time All-American in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and earned her third honor in 2000 in the 100 breaststroke.

McCleave will resume competition Saturday in the 1650 freestyle where she is seeded 11th in the event.

Fans can view live meet results through the NCAA website by visiting www.ncaasports.com/swimming/womens. The competition will also be shown live on ESPN360.com Saturday between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m. EST.
