LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Washington State University Women's swim remains in ninth place after the third day of the Pacific-10 Conference Championships, Friday, at the Belmont Plaza.

No. 4 Stanford remains in first after three days of competition with 952.5 points. No. 10 UCLA stayed in second with 844 points. They were followed by No. 6 Arizona (821), No. 8 California (740), No. 16 Arizona State (642), No. 7 USC (501), No. 24 Washington (300), Oregon State (264.5) and WSU (196). Oregon does not sponsor women's swimming.

Senior Nicole Chinn had two top-24 finishes for Washington State. The Seattle native swam a season best time of 57.52 in the preliminaries to earn a spot in the bonus consolation final where she finished in 22nd with a time of 58.34. Chinn grabbed a 22nd place finish in the 100 butterfly with another season best time of 57.17.

Freshman Monika Povilonyte and sophomore Jane Copland swam career bests in the 100 breaststroke to finish 17th and 18th, earning the Cougars 16 points in that event. With her time of 1:04.45 in the finals, Klaipeda, Lithuania native Povilonyte moved into third place alone on the Cougars' All-Time Top 10 list. Copland (Wellington, New Zealand) moved to number four on the list with a time of 1:04.72.

Freshman Erin McCleave also scored points for the Cougs, finishing 23rd in the 200 freestyle. The Rutherglen, Australia native swam a career best time of 1:50.92 in preliminaries, moving her from fifth to fourth place on the Cougars' All-Time Top 10. She swam a time of 1:51.54 in the finals to grab two points for WSU.

Freshman Lindsay Backhouse (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) swam her way onto the Cougars' All-Time Top 10 with a 24th place finish in the 100 backstroke (59.32).

 

 

The WSU 'A' 400 medley relay team of Chinn, Povilonyte, Backhouse, and McCleave finished eighth (3:51.27), earning the Cougars 44 points.

The Pac-10 Championships conclude Saturday at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif. Preliminaries begin at 11 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.
