LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Washington State University women's swim team fell into ninth place, just one and a half points behind Oregon State, in the second day of the Pacific-10 Conference Championships, Thursday, at the Belmont Plaza.

No. 4 Stanford remains in first after day two with 482 points. After holding seventh after day one, No. 10 UCLA moved into second place with 410 points. They were followed by No. 6 Arizona (398), No. 8 California (354), No. 16 Arizona State (322.5), No. 7 USC (318), No. 24 Washington (134), Oregon State (129.5) and WSU (128). Oregon does not sponsor women's swimming.

Washington State's lone points came in a ninth place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of freshman Katie Van Horne, freshman Erin McCleave, senior Nicole Chinn, and sophomore Lesley Ouellette clocked in with a time of 1:36.00.

California senior Natalie Coughlin broke a twelve-year-old Pac-10 record in the 200 IM. The three-time NCAA Swimmer of the Year captured her eighth career Pac-10 individual title, breaking Summer Sanders's record set in 1992 by nearly half a second, with a time of 1:54.95.

Stanford's Lacey Boutwell captured first in the 50 freestyle, while USC's Kayln Keller grabbed first in the 500 free. The UCLA 'A' relay team swam to victory in the 200 free relay.

The Pac-10 Championships continue Friday and Saturday, with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif. The championships are hosted by Arizona State University.
