Cougars Hold Sixth After Day One Of Pac-10 Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Washington State University women's swim team sits in sixth place after the first day of competition at the Pac-10 Championships held at the Belmont Plaza.
No. 4 Stanford and No. 8 California hold the early lead with 116 points each, followed by No. 6 Arizona (110), No. 7 USC (102), No. 16 Arizona State (100), Washington State (88), No. 10 UCLA (54), Oregon State (48), and No. 24 Washington (44).
WSU's 'A' 800 freestyle relay team grabbed sixth place in the first event of the championships. The team consisted of freshman Erin McCleave, sophomore Jane Copland, senior Sasha Taylor, and freshman Laurie Gregg.
The only Pac-10 meet record of the day came in the 800 freestyle relay, where California's 'A' team recorded a time of 7:08.13
The Pac-10 Championships will continue Thursday through Saturday at the Belmont Plaza. Preliminary heats for individual events will be held at 11 a.m., with finals for all events beginning at 6 p.m.
