Seven Cougars Make Finals In Third Day Of Conference Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Washington State wrapped up the third day of racing at the 2006 Pac-10 Championships with seven Cougars advancing to their event finals. Junior Kayli Changstrom posted the top WSU performance finishing 11th in 400 individual medley and earning a NCAA "B" consideration standard. Erin McCleave picked up her second NCAA consideration standard of the meet finishing 15th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.05. McCleave turned in a time of 4:51.58 in the 500 freestyle Thursday (Feb. 24) earning her first consideration standard and an eighth place finish. Junior Monika Povilonyte swam to a 15th place finish in the 100 breaststroke posting a time of 1:04.12 with Washington State freshman Elyse Peterson also scoring in the event with a time of 1:04.84 (21st). Freshman Afton Pickett recorded a 16th place finish in the 100 backstroke (57.39) while McKenzie Reiter and Laurie Gregg finished 22nd (4:34.00) and 23rd (4:35.32) respectively in the 400 individual medley to round out Washington State scorers. The Cougars finished the day with an eighth place showing in the 400 medley relay with Pickett, Povilonyte, Bryn Mooney and McCleave combining for a time of 3:48.64. The 2006 Pac-10 Championships conclude freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle races.
