LONG BEACH, Calif. - Washington State junior Erin McCleave swam to an eighth place finish in the 500 freestyle as she paced the Cougars in the second day of competition at the 2006 Pac-10 Swimming Championships.

McCleave turned in a time of 4:51.58 in the finals of the event, earning her a NCAA "B" consideration standard.

Jane Copland also scored for Washington State, finishing 14th overall in the 200 individual medley with a lifetime best swim of 2:03.96. Copland's performance also earned the senior a NCAA "B" consideration standard.

Freshman Afton Pickett posted a lifetime best swim in the 200 individual medley (2:06.88) where she finished 26th overall. Fellow freshmen Maya Dill (5:08.85) and Kristin Marceau (5:04.87) also recored lifetime best performances in the 500 freestyle.

WSU closed out Thursday's competition with a ninth place showing in the 200 freestyle. Team of Jamie MacLeod, Elyse Peterson, Katie Van Horne and McCleave combined for a time of 1:35.39.

Arizona finished the second day of competition in first place (474) followed by Stanford (443) and UCLA (410). The Cougars currently sit in the ninth spot with 166 points.

Racing continues at the 2006 Pac-10 Championships with the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 3M Diving (Federal Way, WA) and the 400 medley relay events scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24.
