Cougar Swimming Has Strong Showing on Third Day of Pac-10 Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Washington State women's swimming continued their strong showing at the 2007 Pac-10 Women's Swimming Championships in Long Beach. Calif. Seven Cougar swimmers scored for WSU Friday as WSU remains in ninth place after three days of competition. No. 1 Stanford is in first while Arizona, ranked fourth nationally, is in second.

Kayli Changstrom turned in an NCAA "B" Consideration Standard time in the 400 individual medley to place 18th in the event. Her time of 4:21.31 was a personal best time for the senior and marked the second NCAA consideration time she has posted in the competition. McKenzie Reiter came in 23rd overall with a time of 4:28.02.

In the 100 butterfly, freshman Michael Ahlin earned a personal best time of 55.58 to place 19th. Bryn Mooney's time of 56.01 was good enough for 21st place.

Senior Erin McCleave finished tenth in the 200 freestyle with an NCAA "B" Consideration time of 1:47.41. It was a career best time for McCleave who earned an NCAA Qualifying time in the 500 freestyle with a second place finish Thursday.

Sophomore Elyse Peterson earned her third NCAA "B" Consideration Standard time of the season with a final time of 1:03.37 in the 100 breaststroke. It was a career best time for Peterson, who placed 14th in the event. Monika Povilonyte recorded a time of 1:04.47 in the event, a season best for the senior. She placed 20th overall.

As a team, WSU placed seventh in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:45.36.

The Pac-10 Women's Swimming Championships conclude Saturday with the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay events.
