PULLMAN - The Washington State University swim team fell in a closely contested meet against Boise State, Friday night at Gibb Pool. The Cougars trailed by eight points with only two races left, but eventually dropped the meet by a score of 143-119, falling to 5-2 in dual meets this season.

"I think we may have overthought things and overswam things instead of going up with relaxed speed and confidence and I think that caught us tonight," said WSU Head Coach Erica Quam.

Talor Whitaker had the most points of any swimmer in the event, finishing with 22. The Chesterton, Ind., native picked up first-place points in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Both swims put her in sole possession of 10th place on the respective WSU all-time lists. The senior also earned a second-place finish behind Boise State's Amber Boucher in the 100 butterfly. Boucher and Whitaker each beat the Gibb Pool record formerly held by current Cougar Assistant Coach Lindsay Henahan, but Boucher will now own the spot in the Gibb Pool record books with a time of 54.88 seconds.

Fellow WSU co-captains Rugile Mileisyte and Jennifer Dean each notched first-place finishes, for the Cougars. Mileisyte touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke, winning by more than a second while Dean reigned supreme in the 500 yard freestyle, putting up a gutsy performance to snag the win by two hundredths of a second.

Danielle Palumbo was the fourth and final Cougar to earn a finish atop the leaderboard, doing so in the 200 backstroke. The junior from Sammamish, Wash., cruised to a two-second victory in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.10.

"Danielle has been swimming tough in that event all season long and we are excited for her in that event. It was a great in-season time and I think she will do really well in that event when she rests."
