CORVALLIS, Ore. - Senior Erin McCleave won three individual events Saturday against the Oregon State Beavers, but Washington State was still edged 133-129. It was only the second dual meet loss of the season for the Cougars while the Beavers picked up its first Pac-10 win of the season.

WSU began strongly as the 200 medley relay team of Bryn Mooney, Monika Povilonyte, Michaela Ahlin and Shawna Keller finished in first with a winning time of 1:46.69. McCleave followed with a season-best time of 9:56.85 in the 1000 freestyle to take first place.

Shawna Keller's time of 24.58 in the 50 freestyle earned her the win. McCleave followed Keller's first-place finish with a victory in the 100 freestyle (51.82). McCleave's third win of the day came in the 500 freestyle (4:58.66).

The Cougars finished with a win in the 400 freestyle relay. McCleave, Keller, Lindsay Backhouse and Ahlin combined for a time of 3:29.57.

Other top finishes for the Cougars included a second place finish in the 200 freestyle for Kayli Changstrom (1:53.53). Afton Pickett and Lindsay Backhouse finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 backstroke and Elyse Peterson finished second in the 100 breaststroke. Michaela Ahlin turned in a time of 56.92 in the 100 butterfly to place second.

Oregon State's Saori Haruguchi paced the Beavers with three individual wins. Felicia Castaneda finished first in the 100 breaststroke and Megan Evans took first in the 200 breaststroke.

 

 

WSU concludes their dual meet season Saturday, Jan. 27 as they host Idaho and Boise State at Gibb Pool.
