![]() Student-Athlete Spotlight Name: Ashley Johnson Hometown: Phoenix Nickname: Crash Ash (it's a family thing), Johnson Major: Movement Studies/Kinesiology Favorite thing about WSU: Walking in the parade at the Lentil Festival and of course I can't forget Cougar Country. Heroes: I know it's common, but of course my parents. My dad died when I was younger, but I can still picture him sitting on the side of the field when I walk off telling everybody how well they played and then telling me how bad I sucked. And my mom because I have two other sisters and everybody knows how hard teenage girls are to handle. Best Career Soccer Moment: Beating Arizona State in the last game of the 2008 season. It was so foggy that day I couldn't see the other goal as I stood at the halfway line. We had to come away win a win if we wanted to get into the (NCAA) Tournament so everything was on the line. When Elysse (Peterson) scored off a rebound, everybody rushed the field and ran into a dog pile. At that moment it didn't matter if it was 50 degrees outside or not because we had earned our win and beat all odds. Most Embarrassing Moment: Oh jeez, there are too many to try and think of one that really stands out over the rest. But I guess the one that is most scarring is when I played right back in the Idaho game my freshman year. Someone passed me the ball and I beat their midfielder with my first touch. I ran down the line and right after beating the fullback, I picked my head up to cross the ball. As I wound up to cross it, I kicked it with my plant foot first (I have no idea how) and I ended up swinging and whiffing the ball entirely. It rolled out of bounds for a goal kick. Everybody burst out laughing and it definitely took me a while to recover. Anyone on the team can tell you that I fall a lot during practice and am always doing something that gets a laugh. Hobbies (other than soccer): Spending time at the beach whether it's boogey boarding or hanging out. And basically any sport. My sisters and I have started to take up golf and let me tell you, it's a pretty awful sight. Favorite TV Show: Shark Week on the Discovery Channel. Over the summer, I really got into the Tour de France and I hope to be the first woman in it someday riding along in Lance Armstrong's team. I also like Grey's Anatomy, Army Wives, and any reality TV show like Rock of Love Bus with Brett Michaels or whoever else is searching for love at the moment. And at night I like watching SportsCenter because it bores me to sleep. Haha. Favorite Band: Don't have one. In Five Years Time...If I don't' make the Tour de France cut, I plan on being out of graduate school and having a career in physical therapy, chiropractic, or as a physician's assistant. Favorite Quote: "Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, it will last forever." -Lance Armstrong
