Twelve Cougars Earn Pac-10 Soccer All-Academic Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Pacific-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced the 2005 Pac-10 All-Academic honors Wednesday, naming Ashley Lara to the first team, Katie Hultin, Jennie Kunc and Alix Rustrum to the second team and eight Cougars to the honorable mention list.

Lara, a human nutrition and foods major, earn the honor for the second consecutive year carrying a 3.91 GPA. Lara earned second team honors her sophomore year in her first year of eligibility. The 2004 United States Achievement Academy Scholar Athlete has been named to the President's Honor Roll each semester attended at Washington State. Lara made 20 starts in the Cougar defense and served as a co-captain on the 2005 squad.

Hultin is a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention honoree and was named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII (8) team. The biology major carries a 3.57 GPA and posted a 10-7-2 overall record in 2005 recording seven solo shutouts and earning All-Pac-10 second team honors for the second consecutive year.

Rustrum, a pharmacy student, carries a 3.7 GPA and has been accepted into the graduate program at Washington State. The two-time Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention honoree also earned 2004 USAA All-American Scholar Athlete accolades. Rustrum earned All-Pac-10 second team honors in 2004 and notched four goals for the Cougars in 2005.

Kunc, an accounting major, carries a 3.58 GPA and is a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention honoree. The 2004 USAA All-American Scholar Athlete made 20 starts in the Cougar back line and notched the first goal of her collegiate career in 2005.

Eight Cougars earned Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention accolades including seniors Carmen Anderson and Haley Thompson-Miller who were each recognized for the third consecutive year. Junior Angela Fajardo was named to her second honorable mention team while sophomores Molly Alexander, Natalie Elkind, Shaye Harrel, Anna Miller and Allison Scurich earned the honor in their first year of eligibility.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and be either a starter or significant contributor.
