NCAA FIRST ROUND MATCH AT KENTUCKY

The match was played in front of 1,065. The Cougars are now 12-6-4. Kentucky finishes 13-7-1.

Washington State will play Virginia, Friday, Nov. 18 in the second round.

PENALTY KICKS
Mesa Owsley converts and Washington State advances with a 4-2 advantage in PKs. Bethanie Skelton gives the Cougars a 3-1 lead and Ashley VanLandhingham keeps Kentucky alive. Nicole Setterlund misses and Stuart Pope brings the Wildcats within 2-1. Jacquelyn Roth makes for the Cougars and Alyssa Telang misses for Kentucky. Jocelyn Jeffers makes for Washington State and Danielle Krohn misses for Kentucky.

This is the first time in NCAA school history that Washington State has gone to PKs to decide a match.

In the 106th minute, Kelsey Hunyadi fires high from the top of the box for Kentucky.

The second overtime begins with Brandi Vega back in the match. The Cougars once again have the wind at their back.

Kentucky holds a 13-12 advantage in shots.

Brandi Vega is shaken up in the 100th minute and Tiara Pittman enters for the Cougars.

Stuart Pope takes a shot from the top of the box in the 99th minute and it rolls outside the left post.

Kayla Johnson checks back in for Mariah Cameron with about three minutes left in the first overtime.

Cailin Landis nearly ends the match in the 96th minute. The Wildcat ran onto a ball it the box, but was a little to anxious on her shot and hit the top of the bar and went out of play.

In the 94th minute, a cross into the box for Kentucky results in a shot by Natalie Horner at the far right post. Gurveen Clair makes the save and the match continues.

Less than two minutes into overtime, Kelsey Hunyadi takes two shots for Kentucky, which once again has the wind at its back.

Washington State dominated the second half, outshooting Kentucky 7-1 to take a 10-8 advantage in the match. Both teams have two corner kicks. Gurveen Clair has made a pair of saves for the Cougars.

The teams will play a 10-minute sudden-victory overtime period. If the match is still tied, a two-minute break will be followed by a second 10-minute sudden victory period. If still tied, the match will be decided by penalty kicks.

Mariah Cameron replaces Kayla Johnson in the 85th minute. The Cougars have had the possession for most of the half.

In the 84th minute, an apparent Kentucky threat is cancelled with an offside call.

Bethanie Skelton intercepts a pass in the 83rd minute and creates a shot in the box for Kayla Johnson, but Kalya Price is there for the save.

In the 77th minute, Brandi Vega plays a ball into box from the left side. The pass was intended for Bethanie Skelton and nearly resulted in an own goal when Kentucky's Kiondra McGee deflected to the ball into the arms of Wildcats' goalkeeper Kalya Price.

The Cougars continue to add pressure. In the 74th minute, Beau Bremer intercepts a pass at the top of her own 18. Bremer plays the ball to Brandi Vega. After Vega dribbles to the middle, she sends a pass to the right side for Delaney Zalud. After taking a touch, Zalud sents a lofty pass into the box on the left side that Jocelyn Jeffers heads wide of the near post.

In the 72nd minute, a Washington State free kick leads to a shot each for Rachael Doyle and Jocelyn Jeffers.

Early in the 71st minute, the Cougars earn their first corner kick.

Brandi Vega shoots on the run from 20 yards out on the right and the ball goes above the bar.

There is more controversy in the 65th minute. Delaney Zalud took an indirect free kick from about 45 yards out that found that net. The Cougars argued that the ball was deflected by Kentucky goalkeeper Kayla Price. However, the officials ruled the ball was not touched by a Wildcat and therefore the goal was not allowed.

At 55:58, Rachael Doyle keep a ball alive inside the box and Ali Fenter converts her first goal of the season and the match is tied 1-1.

In the 48th minute, a long through ball to Brandi Vega is taken away when Kentucky goalkeeper comes out of the net to take the ball off Vega's foot.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Erin Simon's shot from 22 yards out for Kentucky goes wide right.

The second half begins. Washington State is playing with the wind at its back.

Washington State called for a penalty in the box in the 41st minute. Now a yellow card is issue to both Taylor Parker of Kentucky and Rachael Doyle of Washington State.

Kelsey Hunyadi coverts the penalty kick for her team-leading 14th goal of the season at 40:10. Kentucky leads 1-0.

The word in the press box is the penalty kick was awarded for playing the ball with the hand by the Cougars. It may have been called against Nicole Setterlund who intercepted a cross.

Zoe Jeffers enters the match for Jocelyn Jeffers after the goal.

In the 34th minute, Kelsey Hunyadi shows why she is dangerous as she creates space and send a rocket from 18 yards out on the right that is just wide of the right post.

Caitlin Landis evens the shots on goal 2-2 with a one hopper that Gurveen Clair is in perfect position for in the 33rd minute.

In the 32nd minute, a couple of loose balls find the feet of Kentucky players. Natalie Horner send a low shot from just outside the top of the box and Gurveen Clair blocks the one hopper and gains possession.

Bethanie Skelton checks in for Tiara Pittman in the 31st minute.

Kentucky's leading scorer, Kelsey Hunyadi (13 G, 10 A, 23 PTS), turns a fires at the top of the 18 and the shots sails wide left. The Cougars are playing into a 14 mph wind this half, so they are using defenders instead of goalkeeper Gurveen Clair for goal kicks.

In the 24th minute, Mariah Cameron's shot from the left side in the box is saved with a dive by Kayla Price.

Danielle Krohn is issue a yellow card in the 20th minute. Jacquelyn Roth's free kick into the box is headed on goal by Jocelyn Jeffers, Washington State's first shot of the match.

A long pass to Tiara Pittman gets the Cougar hopes up in the 18th minute, but Pittman is run off the ball by a Wildcats' defender. The ball rolls into the arms of Kentucky goalkeeper Kayla Price.

Brandi Vega has a good run up the right side beating one defender before the ball rolled off her foot and over the end line.

Washington State generates its first chance, in the 13th minute, when Tiara Pittman is taken down on the right side. Jacquelyn Roth sends a free kick into the box, but the Cougars are whistled offside.

In the 11th minute, the Wildcats counter attack, but are called offside on a long through ball.

Just past the five-minute mark, Kentucky earns a corner kick from the left. A scramble ensues, but Nicole Setterlund clears the ball for the Cougars.

Eileen Maes leaves with an injury at 1:35 and Mariah Cameron enters for the Cougars.

The match is underway. Kentucky is in all blue. Washington State is wearing white jerseys, gray shorts and white socks. The Cougars are moving right to left from the press box perspective, opposite the team benches.

It is just about 15 minutes to the start of the match between Washington State and Kentucky.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Washington State women's soccer team will face Kentucky at 7 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Pacific in a first round match of the 2011 NCAA Championship.
