INDIANAPOLIS - The Washington State University women's soccer team received an at-large bid to the 2011 NCAA Division I Championship, the NCAA announced, Monday.

The Cougars (12-6-3, 6-3-2 Pac-12) will play at Kentucky (13-7-0, 6-5-0 SEC) in the first round at 7 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Pacific, Saturday, Nov. 12.

This is the third NCAA postseason appearance in the last-four years for the Cougars, a first for the program. The recent success is one of the best stretches in women's athletics history at Washington State.

Cougar volleyball made five-straight NCAA Championship appearances (1993-97) and three-straight (2000-02). From 1998-2002, Cougar tennis appeared in four NCAA Championships. The Washington State women's golf team made six-consecutive NCAA regional appearances (2002-07). Cougar rowing was invited to the NCAA Championship three times from 2003-06 and has earned three bids over the last-four seasons.

"I am very proud of our seniors and the way they have gone about this year," Cougar Head Coach Matt Potter said. "They are great character people. For them to get this highlight moment speaks to the magnitude of their contribution to our program."

The Cougars finished fourth in the Pac-12 and are one of five-conference schools in the tournament along with regular season champion Stanford and at-large bid recipients UCLA, Oregon State and California.

"Kentucky has had an exceptional year as has the SEC," Potter said. "If you look at tournament teams, we have been on the road to Virginia and Portland, so this will be nothing new for us. Kentucky deserves to be in the tournament like us and it makes for a great women's soccer environment."

The Cougars and Wildcats have played once before with Washington State winning 2-0 at Kentucky, Oct. 5, 1997.
