Oct. 31, 2012

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State soccer standouts Delaney Zalud and Rachael Doyle received honors for their efforts on the pitch against Oregon State and Oregon.

Zalud, a junior defender, was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week for her contribution to the Cougar's 1-0 victory over Oregon, Sunday. With a well-placed free kick, Zalud set in motion the string of events that led to Brandi Vega's game-winning goal.

The Colbert, Wash., native has seen playing time in all 18 games this season, recording two assists.

Fellow junior defender Doyle was named to CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll for her performance as she anchored the back line that swept the Oregon schools this weekend.

The North Epping, New South Wales native has played in 17 of the team's 18 games, and has tallied seven points for the Cougar offense this season, recording three goals and one assist.

Zalud and Doyle are an integral part of the WSU defense that has shut out eight opponents to date. Over the weekend, the Cougars held Oregon State and Oregon to five or less shots in each period, including allowing Oregon only one shot in the second half.
