The Washington State (1-0-0) soccer team plays its second consecutive home match when it hosts Boise State, Friday, Aug. 3 at 3 p.m.
LAST WEEK
In Washington State's 2012 debut match, the Cougars defeated Gonzaga 3-0 at Lower Soccer Field...junior Micaela Castain scored the first goal of the season for Washington State...teammates senior Brandi Vega and redshirt-junior Kayla Johnson tallied the other two goals against the Bulldogs.
CASTAIN NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK
After scoring the game-winning goal in the 2012 season opener, Castain was named the WSUCougars.com Student-Athlete of the Week.
ATTENDANCE RECORDS
In 2011 the Cougars set single-season home records for total attendance (6,850) and average attendance (856)...Sunday's home opener against Gonzaga drew a crowd of 889.
WASHINGTON STATE HEAD COACH Keidane McAlpine
Cougar Head Coach Keidane McAlpine is in his first year as head coach at Washington State, and his sixth year overall as a head coach...he opened the 2012 season with a victory, making his record in Pullman 1-0-0...his career record is 41-48-11.
STINGY DEFENSE
In 2011 the Cougars posted a 0.74 goals against average, currently the second-best in school history...Washington state blanked Gonzaga in its 2012 season opener.
ABOUT THE BRONCOS
Boise State is currently 2-0-0...Broncos defeated New Mexico State 1-0 and North Dakota State 4-1 in Boise, Idaho last weekend...five different student-athletes scored a goal for Boise State.
SERIES WITH BOISE STATE
Washington State won the only previous meeting between the schools...Cougars downed the Broncos 2-0 in Moscow, Idaho during the 1999 season.
