Oct. 30, 2009
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Freshman Brandi Vega netted a first half goal and No. 19 Washington State won 1-0 at No. 25 Oregon State in Pacific-10 women's soccer, Friday night. Vega's goal came in the 40th minute on a rebound after senior Kiersten Dallstream's initial shot hit the post. Junior Meghan Berlingo made three saves for Washington State (12-4-1, 4-1-1 Pac-10) to record her fifth and the team's eighth shutout of the season." "We knew this was going to be a difficult place to play and it turned out to be," WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. "We found a way to go up a goal and our back four and Meghan Berlingo defended very well. I am very proud of the way we closed out the match and kept the clean sheet." After Berlingo made a save in the eighth minute, the Beavers (10-6-1, 2-4-0 Pac-10) were held without a shot for the remainder of the first half. The Cougars held a 7-1 advantage in shots during the first stanza and a 12-6 margin in the match. The best scoring chance for either team in the second half came when Cougar sophomore Jacquelyn Roth's bid for a goal hit the crossbar in the 68th minute. The Cougars play at Oregon, Sunday at 1 p.m. in their final regular season road match. WSU NOTES
