Cougar Soccer Earns Draw at Fifth-Ranked USC

LOS ANGELES - Washington State and USC played to a 0-0 tie in a Pacific-10 Conference women's soccer match between two nationally-ranked teams, Sunday.

The No. 25 Cougars (6-3-4, 0-1-1 Pac-10) withstood a barrage of shots in the first half by the No. 5 Women of Troy (11-1-1, 1-0-1 Pac-10) and came away with a point on the road against at top five opponent for just the third time in school history.

"It was incredible to watch the numbers USC was able to get in the first half and we were fortunate to be 0-0 at halftime," WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. "We were able to adjust our tactics and played much better in the second half and overtime. I am so proud of our team. To be able to take two powerhouses like UCLA and USC to overtime, come so close to a win (Friday at UCLA) and get a tie speaks volumes about what we are capable of as a team."

USC outshot Washington State 14-1 in the first half, including 9-0 in the first 18 minutes, and nearly took the lead in the first minute of the match when Ashli Sandoval's shot hit the crossbar.

The Women of Troy's goalkeeper Kristin Olsen made a saves on a shot by Kiersten Dallstream in the 74th minute and another on Dallstream three minutes later. Cougar goalkeeper Lindsay Parlee, who made nine saves, stopped Kasey Johnson's shot following a corner kick in the 83rd minute to help send the match to overtime.

Less the than two minutes into the first extra session, Olsen saved a header from Carly Dobratz and USC had a pair of shots in the second overtime, but Parlee earned her final save of the match and preserved the draw.

The Cougars return home for a Pac-10 match against No. 15 California, Friday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m.
