LOS ANGELES - Gurveen Clair made seven saves, including a pair in the second overtime, and Washington State battled No. 2 UCLA to a 0-0 draw in the Pac-12 opener for both schools, Thursday night.

It was the second-straight season the Cougars (6-1-1) and Bruins (7-0-2) failed to score in their head-to-head meeting.

"Anytime you can come into a top five opponent's house and come out with a result, you've got to be proud," Cougar Head Coach Keidane McAlpine said. "The intensity level was good for the entire 90 (minutes) plus the overtime. We finally put it all together."

Washington State's defense was stout in the first half, allowing just five shots to a UCLA team that came in averaging 20.5 per match.

In the second half, the Cougars created more opportunities offensively, stringing together three shots in less than 4 1/2 minutes. The defensive intensity kept up as UCLA went 17 minutes without a shot.

Washington State held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks during regulation before UCLA added a pair in the extra sessions.

The Cougars travel to Santa Clara for a 1 p.m. meeting, Sunday with the No. 23 Broncos. Live stats will be available at santaclarabroncos.com
