PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's soccer squad wrapped up the 2006 Cougar Classic Tournament Sunday, battling No. 25 Gonzaga to a 0-0 double-overtime tie at Lower Soccer Field.

The Bulldogs came out on the offensive, firing three shots in the first nine minutes of the opening half. WSU fired back as Kiersten Dallstream recorded three shots and Anna Miller added one before the halfway mark.

The two teams continued to trade possession and scoring chances as the second half wore on but neither team could find the back of the net with regulation play ending without a goal. WSU nearly put the match away in the fourth minute of the first overtime period as an Angela Fajardo shot sailed just high of the Gonzaga goal.

Washington State out shot the Bulldogs 11-5 with Dallstream pacing the Cougar attack with six shots. WSU keeper Brynn Bemis made three stops for the Cougars recording her first shutout of the season.

"It was a very positive weekend overall," said head coach Matt Potter. "We faced two of last year's NCAA Tournament teams and came away without a loss. We learned how to fight and battle with a group that is very young and really just learning how to come together. It's very encouraging."

Next up, the Cougars head to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the 2006 Utah Fall Classic Tournament Sept. 1-3. WSU faces host Utah Friday, Sept.1 at 6:30 p.m. (PDT) and takes on Utah State Sunday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. (PDT).
