Cougars Down Grizzlies in Soccer Opener

Aug. 22, 2008

MISSOULA, Mont. - Junior forward Kiersten Dallstream scored a first half goal to lift Washington State to a 1-0 victory at Montana in nonconference women's soccer, Friday.

The game-winner came at 40:57 after a long lead pass from freshman Megan Chapin. The goal was the 14th in Dallstream's career and moved her into sole possession of seventh place on the Cougar career list.

"The first 20 minutes we kept possession and started well," WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. "We created a chance and it was great pass from Megan and a great shot from Kiersten. Up a goal at halftime, we knew the adjustments we needed to make and we executed well in the second half. To get a road win prepares us nicely going into next weekend where we will be in another hostile environment."

The shutout was the first for the Cougars (1-0-0) in a season opener since 2004 when WSU beat Denver 2-0 in Missoula and the first road shutout to open a season in school history.

The Cougars outshot the Grizzlies (0-1-0) 11-10 and sophomore Lindsay Parlee made three saves in her first-career start in net for WSU.

WSU travels to Harrisonburg, Va., next weekend to take on James Madison and No. 25 (Soccer America) William & Mary.
