CAPTAINS' DIARY: WEEK SEVEN

October 5, 2004

There was no doubt in our minds that this weekend was going to be our toughest this season, and it was. Both Loyola Marymount and Portland gave us quite the challenge. In the LMU game, we were playing against ourselves for the most part in the first half, but we pulled together in the second half to tie the game up. After 110 minutes of soccer the game ended in a 1-1 tie. We wanted to come out on top in this game, but sometimes things just don't fall in to place. We did show a lot of character and found a way to tie the game and dominate the second half.

The Portland game was a great match. We deserved more than what we got from the game. We played very well against the number six team in the nation. We dominated in the first half, and we had our chances. The second half we let them play their game a bit more, and they found a rhythm and put away their chances. We on the other hand had a rhythm, but we also had a couple mental lapses that cost us. We stuck it out though; we fought together and we played for each other. Once again we will learn and grow from the weekend.

We will go back to work this week and the atmosphere should be incredibly intense and upbeat because PAC-10 action is approaching this weekend. We play Arizona and Arizona State; what a way to start PAC-10 play!! We are excited. It's a whole different ball game in our conference, battle after battle, any team can win on any given day. The outcome all depends on which team shows up to really play their game.
