PULLMAN, Wash. --- Washington State junior Tasha Browner has been selected to compete as an individual in the 2001 NCAA West Regional on May 10-12 in Corvallis, Ore.

It will be Browner's second-straight trip to the postseason event. Last year, Washington State qualified as a team and finished 23rd at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.

"I'm disappointed that my team didn't make it," Browner said. "But I hope to go and represent our school well."

Browner led the Cougars this season with a 76.8 scoring average, finishing in the top 10 in five of 12 tournaments. The Tarzana, Calif., native also etched her name in the school record book in September by firing a single-round 67 and 54-hole 209 at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

Portland State's Taya Battistella is the other individual selected to compete in the event. The field will feature 21 teams, including eight from the Pac-10.

Browner is the first Cougar player to be selected as an individual for the NCAA West Regional since Eryn Remington did it as a sophomore in 1994.

"I'm excited. I'm going to go and call my parents," Browner said.
