Pullman, Wash.--- Washington State's women's golf team is hoping to pick up right where it left off at the end of the fall season. The 2000 Spartan Invitational will provide the Cougars their first opportunity to better the school record 303 they fired in the third round of the Stanford Invitational, the final fall event.

Head coach Walt Williams will stay with the familiar lineup of senior Jenny Ballou, junior Jennifer Dodd, sophomore Tasha Browner, and freshmen Donna Bell and Shanelle Roberts. Williams used the same lineup in all five fall tournaments.

The 54-hole tournament will be played March 6-8 at the Laguna Seca Golf Course in Monterey, Calif. The three-day event will feature 14 teams. Arizona State (#4), Tulsa (#14), San Jose State (#16), and Oklahoma State (#20) all head into play ranked in GolfStat's top-20. Twelve players ranked in GolfStat's top-100 are also scheduled to compete, including Arizona State's Miriam Nagl (#2) and Tulsa's Stacy Prammanasudh (#7).

"It's an outstanding 14-team field with some of the best teams in the nation," Williams said. "It's our first competition, so we are a little behind some of the other schools, but we hope to play well right away."

Williams is looking for Jenny Ballou to begin her senior campaign with a strong performance. "I think Jenny Ballou might step out this spring in her last shot at it," Williams said. "She is probably playing the best of anyone right now and hopefully she can improve through the semester."
