Welch Leads Cougars At Pepsi Invitational At Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - Kim Welch finished in a tie for 33rd to lead the Cougars in the 2002 Pepsi Invitational at the par 72, 6,218 yard Stanford Golf Course at Stanford, Calif.

WSU finished ahead of Pac-10 rival Oregon, and San Jose State for 15th place. California won the tournament, and Erica Blasberg of Arizona captured individual championship honors.

Stephanie Parsley ended her day in a tie for 57th, followed by Donna Bell in a tie for 79th, Jay-Lee Longbottom in a tie for 81st, and Ashleigh Gilhuly moved up 2 spots with the her best round of the tournament to finish in 85th place.

The tournament marks the end of a fall season for Cougar women's golf that saw Welch place in the top 25 four times, the Cougars finish in seventh or higher three times, and top 25 efforts by freshman Stephanie Parsley, sophomore Jay-Lee Longbottom, and senior Donna Bell.

The Cougars will begin the spring season Feb. 17, 2003 at Spokane, Wash. for the Inland Collegiate Challenge.
