Welch Jumps Four Spots To Break Into The Top 10 After Second Round

STANFORD, Calif. - Washington State junior Kim Welch fired a 1-under 71 for the second consecutive round to lead the Cougars in the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate, at the Stanford Golf Course, a par 72, 6,107 yard course Saturday.

By shooting a 142 (-2) through the first two rounds, Welch sits in a tie for 10th place and is only two shots out of the top five. Welch jumped four positions from yesterday and is looking to increase her streak of Top 20 finishes for the year to four.

Junior Jay-Lee Longbottom jumped seven spots by improving her first round score by three strokes shooting a 76 (+4) for the day and is 11-over after two rounds.

The Cougars are currently in 17th place in a tough field that includes six Top 10 nationally ranked teams. The Cougars shot a 314 (+26) for the day.

Sophomore Stephanie Parsley has carded a 158 (+14) through the first two rounds and redshirt freshman Heather O'Leary rounds out the Cougar team with a 172.

The final round tees off Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
