WSU Women Move into First at Cougar Cup

PULLMAN - The Washington State University women's golf team improved on their opening-round performance and moved into first place at the Cougar Cup Tuesday, held at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

The Cougars recorded the second-lowest team score of the second round with a 300 (+12), improving on their first-round total by 14 strokes. WSU's two-round total of 614 (+38) carries the team into Wednesday's final round with a three-stroke lead over Gonzaga and a six-stroke lead over 42nd-ranked Washington and Montana.

The Cougars boast a trio of individuals in the top 10, led by sophomore Emma Betland, who is currently tied for fifth with a 36-hole total of 151 (+7). Freshman Mallory Kent carded a second-round 73 (+1), shooting up the leaderboard into a tie for seventh with a 153 (+9). Sophomore Ali Thompson also posted a second-round, 1-over 73, and enters the final round in a tie for 10th place.

Junior Kristen Allard is tied for 16th with a 157 (+13), giving the Cougars four players in the top 25. Rounding out the Cougar contingent is sophomore Ellen Park, whose 165 (+21) puts her just six strokes back of the top 25.

Playing as individuals, sophomore Brenda Jesernig is tied for 24th with a 159 (+15), redshirt senior Allison Travis has a two-round total of 163 (+19) and sophomore Julia Manseau is at 188 (+44) through 36.

Final-round tee times will begin at 8 a.m., and the Cougars will begin teeing off at 8:45 a.m.
