PLEASANTON, Calif. - Senior Kim Welch has been setting records her entire career at Washington State University, and in the final Pacific-10 Conference Championships of her career, she once again led the Cougars with a record-setting performance.

Welch, who was named to the All-Pac-10 team, Wednesday, finished tied for third at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships. Welch's finish is the highest any WSU golfer, man or woman, has ever finished at the Pac-10 Championships. Besides Welch, no other female golfer at WSU has ever finished in the top 10 at the conference championships; Welch has now done it twice (9th-2003).

Welch's three-round total of 5-under 211 is also a WSU record, demolishing the previous record at the event by 13 strokes.

In the opening round Monday, Welch tied her own school record for lowest single-round score at the event with a 2-under 70, only to shatter the record the very next day with a second round 6-under 66. Welch now holds the first, second, third, and fourth (tied with three others) best single-round scores in school history at the Pac-10 Championships.

Washington State was also setting records as a team. With a three-round team score of 898 (+34), the Cougars finished in seventh place, tying their best finish ever at the Pac-10 Championships. The three-round total at the event is a new school record, 26 strokes better than the previous mark.

The Cougars' opening round team total of 299 was their best single-round score in school history at the event. Just as Welch shattered her own record for single round scoring in the second round, the Cougars broke the previous day's record by posting a 293, Tuesday, 10 strokes lower than the WSU record heading into the 2005 conference championships.

In what was also their final Pac-10 Championships, seniors Jay-Lee Longbottom and Maria Kostina posted top 25 finishes. Longbottom finished tied for 21st with a 228 (+12), extending her streak of consecutive top 25 finishes to seven. Kostina finished tied for 23rd, shooting 229 (+13).

In her first career Pac-10 Championships, freshman Tracy Broders posted a 236 (+20), including a career-low 75 in the second round.
