Kim Welch Makes History By Capturing Her Third Consecutive Title

March 28, 2004

TUCSON, Ariz. - There seems to be no stopping Washington State's Kim Welch as she has now garnered her third consecutive title at the Mountain View Collegiate.

Welch, who is currently ranked No. 13 by Golfstat in its Women's Cup Rankings, dominated the 89-person field as she shot just 1-over in the final round. Welch finished the 54-hole tournament at 2-under (214) at the par 72, 6,040 yard Mountain View Golf Course.

The Sacramento, Calif. native's victory at the Mountain View Collegiate marks her fourth win of the spring season and her seventh career triumph.

The top 25 finish by sophomore Anastasia Kostina combined with the victory by Welch, led the Cougars to finish the tournament nine strokes ahead of No.33 (Golfstat) Kansas State and found themselves knotted in a tie for seventh with Kansas.

Junior Jay-Lee Longbottom finished the 54-hole tournament knotted in a tie for 31st, just only two-shots out of the top 25. Maria Kostina found herself knotted in a five-way tie for 73rd, while Stephanie Parsley finished the tournament in a tie for 82nd to round out the Cougar contingent.

The women will return to action at the Peg Barnard California Collegiate in Stanford, Calif., April 10 & 11.
