Welch Leads The Pack After Two Rounds Of Mountain View Collegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. - All-American Kim Welch leads the pack by two strokes after the first two rounds of the Mountain View Collegiate at the par 72, 6,040 yard Mountain View Golf Course.

The women shot a 298 (+10) in their opening round, just three shots behind their lowest single round score of 295 which was shot in 2003at the Duck Invitational. The Cougars shot a 301 in the second round giving them total of 599 (+23) after 36 holes of play and puts them in a tie for fifth place.

Junior Kim Welch, who was recently named College Player of the Week by both Golfweek and Golfworld magazines, tied her personal best of 70 and shot the lowest score of the first round. Welch finished the first two rounds of the tournament sitting 3-under par and holds a two stroke lead ahead of the pack.

Anastasia Kostina played consistently as she tied her personal best of 73 in both the first and second rounds of play. Kostina finished the day shooting only 2-over par and is currently knotted in a tie for eighth, sitting just one shot out of the top 5.

Heading into Sunday's final round, Jay-Lee Longbottom is knotted in a tie for 33rd, just two shots out of the top 25 and four shots out of the top 15. To round out the Cougar contingent, Maria Kostina sits in 81st and Stephanie Parsley finished the day in 82nd.

The final 18 holes of the Mountain View Collegiate will begin Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.
