Cougars Head Into Final Round Leading Pinehurst Invitational

PINEHURST, N.C. - Senior Maria Kostina, junior Anastasia Kostina and senior two-time All-American Kim Welch are all in the top seven, giving the Cougars a 14 stroke lead at the Pinehurst Challenge, Monday.

Maria Kostina leads the trio, tied for second place with 148 (+4). She heads into Tuesday's final round two strokes back of the leader.

Anastasia Kostina is tied for fourth place with 150 (+6). In six tournaments this season, Kostina has yet to finish out of the top eight.

Welch bettered Sunday's round by three strokes, jumping from a tie for 15th to a tie for seventh with 151 (+7).

The Cougars were in second place after Sunday's round, one stroke back of East Carolina University. Monday's team score of 301 propelled the women from second to first through, and the women now lead the 18-team field tournament by 14 strokes.

Senior Jay-Lee Longbottom is one stroke back of the top 25 with 158 (+14) and redshirt sophomore Heather O'Leary shot 164 (+20) to round out the scoring for the Cougars.
