Men's and Women's Golf Earn Championships At Inland Collegiate

March 4, 2003

LEWISTON, Idaho - The men's golf team tied for first with Gonzaga, and the women's team championed the 2003 Inland Collegiate at Lewiston Golf Course at Lewiston, Idaho Feb. 21.

Leading the men's team in the one round event was Chad Carlson who shot an even par (36-36 - 72) for a tie for first and his highest showing as a collegian. Spring signee Alex Dunlop made an impressive showing as an individual in his first tournament, finishing in a tie for fourth, and shooting just a 1-over par 73.

Ryan Camp finished the round in a tie for seventh at 4-over, followed by Dustin White at a tie for 10th (38-39 - 77), and Isaac Woods (43-44 - 78), Ryan Ressa (38-40 - 78), and Ben Bryson (37-41 - 78) all tied for 13th to round out the reported statistics of the Cougar men's contingent.

The women saw superb efforts from a freshman starting only her third collegiate event, and a newcomer to not just the team, but to the United States. Freshman Ashleigh Gilhuly and Russian transfer Maria Kostina finished in a tie for second place with identical 4-over 76's. Stephanie Parsley and Kim Welch were just one shot back of their fellow Cougs and finished at a tie for fourth at 5-over.

Katharine Dorris and Heather O'Leary finished with 6-over 78's, and were followed by Jay-Lee Longbottom's 81, Lindsey Bogden's 82, Donna Bell's 84, and Nicole Hebner's 87.

With the tie, the men extend their streak of five consecutive top place finishes at the event, and the women improve on their second place effort in 2002 by claiming a tournament victory to open the spring. The women shot a team total of 310 to capture the tournament by seven strokes over Idaho's 317.

The men's team will next compete at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on March 10-11, and the women will take the course on Feb. 28 for a three-day tournament at the Florida Southern Invitational.
