PEORIA, Ariz. - The Washington State women's golf team shot 3-over par, a ten-stroke improvement on its best score from the first two rounds, in Monday's final round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational. The Cougar women launched themselves from 10th to seventh on the leaderboard with the fourth best team score in the final round.

Cougar junior Mallory Kent continued her team-leading performance into the final round. Kent carded a 71 (-1) in the last 18 holes, which was the best single-round mark for WSU in the tournament. She finished tied for ninth place at 4-over par. Sophomore teammate Kristen Rue was the next best WSU finisher, joining Kent in the field's top 25 (tied for 22nd) with a score of 10-over.

"Our team had a great mindset today," Cougar Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said. "Our women played really hard, and I'm really happy with our score in the final round and the leap we made. I'm hoping we will be able to carry this momentum into the tournament next weekend."

The tournament title was captured by Texas Tech, which was the only team to finish under par (2-under). The individual title was won by Arkansas' Gabriela Lopez who scored 9-under par for the tournament. Lopez and Texas Tech's Kimberly Kaufman each had marks of 66 in the final round, which was a new 18-hole invitational record.

Next up for the WSU women's golf team is the Bruin/Wave Invitational in Tarzana, Calif. That tournament will be hosted March 4-5 by UCLA and Pepperdine.
