Heather Holte, who played Pacific-10 Conference golf with the University of Oregon, begins her third season as assistant coach with the Cougar golf program.
A top Oregon amateur golfer, Holte has been a summer instructor at Jerry McDermott's Golf School in Eugene, Ore., since 1994. Holte's responsibilities included teaching golf fundamentals to boys and girls ranging in age from six to 16, in addition to adults. Holte instructed all facets of golf ranging from etiquette to skills and mechanics of the game.
A 1997 graduate form the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in exercise and movement science, Holte played three years on the softball team as well as two years on the golf squad. While at Oregon, Holte competed on a golf team that advanced to the NCAA Regionals in 1995 and 1996. Holte's teammates included Paula Patterson, who played on the LPGA tour in 2000 and 2001. Holte earned All Pac-10 second team softball honors in 1994 and 1997 and garnered All-Pac-10 Academic first team honors those same years. In '94 Holte earned first team All-Region 8 honors as well. In 1997, Holte hit 12 home runs, establishing a home run record at Oregon.
Holte brings a lengthy golf resume to the Palouse, which includes capturing the Southern Oregon Championship, the largest match play tournament in the United States, in 1996, '97, and 2001.
Holte also advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1998 and 1999 Oregon Amateur as well as the quarterfinals of the Oregon Coast Invitational in 1996 and 2002. She also claimed a fifth place finish at the Oregon Mid-Am at Columbia Edgewater CC in `02. In 2003, Holte posted two Top 5 finishes, with a third place finish at the Oregon Public Links Championships and a fifth place finish at the Oregon Stroke Play Championships at Willamette Valley CC.
Holte returns to the Pacific Northwest after serving as assistant softball coach at Southwest Texas State for one season. While at SWTS, Holte guided the Bobcats to a No. 16 national ranking, a Southland Conference title, and a regional birth, as the team posted its best record in school history at 54-12, including a 26-1 mark in the conference.
Besides her coaching experience at SWTS and McDermott's Golf School, Holte spent three years as head varsity softball coach as West Albany High School in Albany, Ore., where she led the school to its first league championship in school history.
