Cougars Close Out Fall Season in Seattle

Seattle, Wash. - The Washington State University varsity women's rowing closed out its fall season Sunday at the Head of the Lake. The Cougars launched three varsity eight boats and two varsity fours, winning two of the four events they entered.

Washington State's varsity four (bow -Jennifer Hale, Kendall Boliba, Ashlee Bonahoom, Carly Johnson, coxswain - Rebecca Burns) highlighted the day by winning the women's varsity four event with a time of 20:15. The crew out-stroked cross-state rival University of Washington by three seconds, in addition to beating Seattle University, Portland State University, University of Oregon, and the University of Montana. The second varsity four (bow - Stephanie Hinkle, Gina Head, Samantha Hoeper, Alyssa Rumann, coxswain Sarah Wu) clocked in at 20:25, fast enough for third place.

The third varsity eight (bow - Liana DeMaris, Krista Lizardi, Carter Marks, Sarah Steger, Courtney Hammer, Allie Reilly, Erin Ranney, Brianne Gould, coxswain - Lauren Leahy) also shined today, out-stroking Washington by 12 seconds and winning the event with a time of 18:51.

 

 

The varsity eight boat (bow -Mickey Aylard, Hannah deVos, Kellen Srb, Katie Dick, Mollie McCabe, Alison Smith, Emily Starkel, Noel Christiansen, coxswain Emily Boquet) finished second in the women's varsity eight championship with a time of 18:10. The junior varsity eight (bow - Megan McDonald, Ella Odland, Nicole Hare, Erin Schuster, Jordan Watson, Alex Waddell, Elise Jones, Kerry Hassall, coxswain Heidi Kim) also finished second in its respective event.

The Washington State women's rowing team returns to action March 30 to face Gonzaga at Wawawai Landing .
