PRINCETON, N.J. - Former Washington State University rower, Liz England, has been named to the 2012 U.S. Under-23 National Team and will compete with the women's four crew at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Trakai, Lithuania, July 11-15, USRowing announced Thursday.

Under-23 World Champions will be crowned in 21 events including the men's single sculls, women's single sculls, lightweight men's single sculls, lightweight women's single sculls, men's double sculls, women's double sculls, lightweight men's double sculls, lightweight women's double sculls, men's quadruple sculls, women's quadruple sculls, lightweight men's quadruple sculls, lightweight women's quadruple sculls, men's pair, women's pair, lightweight men's pair, men's four, women's four, lightweight men's four, men's four with coxswain, men's eight and women's eight.

Last season England (Richlands, Va.) attended the Under-23 National Team Selection Camp. A transfer from Clemson, England was a three-year member of the Cougar varsity rowing team, competing with the varsity four and second varsity eight boats as a sophomore in 2009-10, with the second varsity eight crew in 2010-11 and with the varsity eight boat this past season as a senior (2011-12).

"For me, it's a culmination of four years of really hard work," England said after being selected to attend the U-23 National Team Camp earlier this summer. "As a freshman, I attended the USRowing Freshmen Development Camp. Over the summer of my sophomore year I attended another USRowing development camp. Then, last year I was also accepted to the U-23 Team Camp. It feels like a little pat on the back to be accepted, but it also seems like an open door and an invitation to continue to train hard and push myself and test my limits."

Twenty-three athletes return from the 2011 Under-23 National Team including six medalists. Last year, the United States won four medals and set two under-23 world best times in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The U.S. won gold in the women's pair and men's eight and bronze in the women's eight and lightweight men's single sculls.

Racing begins on Wednesday, July 11, with heats. Finals will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 14-15.
