Erin Patterson Named CRCA All-American

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Washington State University's Erin Patterson was named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-America team it was announced by the organization.
Patterson, an outgoing senior from Sumner, Wash., earned a spot on the All-America second team. She was a member of the Cougars' varsity eight crew that finished 14th in the nation.
In addition to Patterson's national honor, the Cougars were well-represented in the other CRCA awards.
Along with her All-America selection, Patterson was awarded a spot on the All-West Region First Team while Jody Thomas garnered a second team pick. Thomas was also named a National Scholar Athlete for the West Region as was Courtney Goodridge.
The Cougar rowing team is coming off an historic 2004 season as the team, led by a third place finish from the second varsity eight crew, finished the NCAA Championships in ninth place last month.
The CRCA awards are designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the season. The nomination criteria include meeting eligibility rules as defined by her institution, participating in at least 75 percent of the season's races in the varsity boat, and the student-athlete's head coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA.
The criteria for the National Scholar Athlete award include all of the above in addition that the student-athlete must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA through the fall semester of the current season.
The All-America first and second teams were selected by the regional chairpersons following the NCAA Championships from the rowers who had received All-Region first team honors.
