Lisa Roman Earns CRCA Honors
May 22, 2012
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Washington State University senior rower Lisa Roman has been named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) 2012 Division I All-West Region First Team, the organization announced Tuesday. Roman (Langley, British Columbia) is in her third season with the Cougar rowing team, having rowed in the varsity eight boat all three years. Last season she was named to the Pacific-10 All-Conference team and represented Canada at the Under-23 World Rowing Championships. Washington State placed sixth at this year's Pac-12 Championships and recorded team victories over Oregon State and Gonzaga during the spring season. Roman becomes the 12th Cougar to receive CRCA All-West Region First Team honors for the 17th time and is now eligible for CRCA All-America Accolades, which will be announced following the NCAA Rowing Championships. Ten of the 11 first team and six of the eight second team west region honorees came from Pac-12 schools, led by California and USC each with five (California-four first team, one second team; USC-two first team, three second team). California head coach Dave O'Neill was named the CRCA West Region Coach of the Year for the third-straight year, while, in his first year with the Golden Bears, Lincoln LaRoe was named West Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their schools' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
