Katie Dick Selected to Capital One Academic All-District Team
May 18, 2012
PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University redshirt junior rower Katie Dick has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Friday.
A native of Victoria, British Columbia, Dick has a 3.97 grade point average and is majoring in Philosophy. She just completed her second full season in a varsity boat after redshirting the 2011 season with an injury. She has been a four-year member of the WSU rowing program. Dick earned Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic First Team honors the last two seasons.
This season Dick competed in both the varsity eight and second varsity eight boats, leading the varsity boat to second place in the petite final of the San Diego Crew Classic, second in group B of the Lake Natoma Invite, and a win over Gonzaga. As a member of the second varsity eight, Dick's crew defeated Oregon State and finished fifth at the Pac-12 Championships, a spot ahead of its seeding.
The women's at-large category includes student-athletes participating in bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.
Dick and all of the Academic All-District honorees now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
