WSU Earns Four Top 10 Finishes At The Head of the Lake Regatta

MONTLAKE CUT, Seattle. - The Washington State women's varsity eight, third varsity eight and two varsity four crews concluded its fall season with top ten finishes Sunday at the annual Head of the Lake Regatta.

In the varsity four race, the Cougar varsity four "A" squad earned the highest finish for WSU of the day. The "A" crew of coxswain Meghann Price, Michelle Morris, Carey Homan, Sharon Finney, and Emily Collins completed the 4,800 meter course in a time of 18:51.89 to finish second. Gonzaga garnered first place in the race, finishing in 18:28.83. The WSU varsity four "B" squad earned a 10th place finish with a time of 19:32.27.

The Cougar varsity eight squad finished the women's championship eight race in sixth place. The Cougars completed the 4,800 meter course in a time of 16:36.83. The Washington varsity eight squad rowed to first place with a time of 16:10.38; Stanford placed second and the University of Victoria squad rounded out the top three. WSU's crew consisted of coxswain May Lundberg, Jody Thomas at stroke, Amber McKnight, Casey Long, Sarah Waterfield, Angela Manson, Becca Gibson, Kasia Bloch, and Lori Maricle at bow.

 

 

In the third varsity eight event, the WSU crew finished the course in a time of 18:25.44, giving them a fifth place finish. Washington placed first in the event crossing the finish line in a time of 17:30.35. The University of Victoria and the Pocock Rowing Center squads placed second and third.

The Cougars competed in the second varsity eight race, but failed to place due to a disqualification. The Cougars did row the second fastest time of the event with a mark of 16:56.58. Washington took place first place in the race, with University of Victoria and Oregon State finishing second and third.

The regatta concluded the fall season for the Cougars, who will not compete again until they face off against Gonzaga Monday March 19 at Spokane.
