INDIANAPOLIS - The 10th ranked Washington State varsity eight women's rowing squad ended its season with a victory by capturing the consolation final at the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships at Eagle Creek Park, Saturday.

By virtue of its win, the varsity eight boat of Sarah Bankston, Gunilla Grafnings, Erin Patterson, Emily Tribe, Catherine Lortie, Corrie McGrath, Beth Rodford, Emily Rains and Carolyn Oury, finished 13th in the championships.

WSU rowed to a time of 7:01.05 in the 2000m race besting second place Cornell's time of 7:02.01. The Cougars trailed through the first 1500m of the competition but raced the final 500m in 1:42.06. Conversely, Cornell, which had led the Cougars by nearly a second and a half at the 1500m mark, stroked the final 500m in 1:44.50. Rounding out the four boat race was Michigan State at 7:03.66 and Notre Dame at 7:04.27.

"I think the team has done a great job getting themselves to the championships," Head Coach Tammy Crawford said. "We have made marked improvements throughout the spring and this team has put us on the map at the national level. There is nothing to hang our heads about being 13th in the nation."
