Cougar Varsity Eight Finishes Third at Pac-10 Championship

LAKE NATOMA, Calif. - Washington State women's rowing No. 16 ranked varsity eight squad finished in third place in the Grand Final Sunday at the 16th Annual Pacific-10 Women's Rowing Championships at Lake Natoma, Calif.

WSU crossed the line at 6:54.9, behind second-place finisher Cal at 6:54.1, and first place Washington at 6:46.4. The varsity eight captured its first top three finish at the Pac-10 Championships since 1996.

"The varsity eight had an exceptional sprint and we were pleased," said Head Coach Tammy Crawford. "The novice eight race was very exciting and they did a great job. We are looking forward to see if we get selected for the NCAA Championships."

In the closest race of the day, the Cougar novice eight squad was defeated in the Grand Final by a tenth of a second to finish at 7:12.7 to Oregon State's 7:12.6.

WSU's junior varsity eight crew cut through the water for a fifth place time of 7:15.8, and the varsity four boat finished in fifth place on the day with a time of 8:01.5.

The Cougars will wait till May 21 to see if they earn a bid to the NCAA Championships, May 30-June 1 at Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis, Ind.
